Great Grandma Grace's Bread
- 3 Tbsp yeast
- 1 cup of water
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1/2 cup sugar (1 cup for sweet bread)
- 1 cup Crisco
- 1 Tbsp salt
- 3 cups warm water
- 3 eggs
- 12 cups of flour
- Activate the yeast with 1 cup of water.
- In a saucepan, add the sugar, Crisco, salt, and water. Heat the water enough to melt the shortening.
- In a mixing bowl, add 5 cups of flour and eggs to the yeast mixture. Then add the Crisco mixture.
- Mix thoroughly and add flour a little at a time till the dough is soft. ( you will not put all 12 cups into the dough)
- Let the dough rise, punch down, and repeat 3 to 4 times.
- Knead the dough and place in greased bread pans.
- butter the top of the bread and bake at 350 degrees for 28-32 minutes.
*Yields four loaves
