Grandma Grace's Chili

 1 yellow onion, chopped

2 lbs hamburger

2 or 3 cloves garlic

In the pot on high heat until browned 


Add while it's cooking:

2 tsp salt 

Black pepper

1 T chili powder


Once onions are opaque, add:

2 stalks celery

1 quart crushed tomatoes


Scrape the bottom of the pan, add

1 tsp cumin

2 or 3 cans of green chilis

3 cans beans (pinto, kidney, chili), do not strain

A couple squeezes of ketchup (maybe 1/2 cup)

Might need some water. Use the cans.


Because this is so versatile, you can add all sorts of extras if they needs using up: refried beans, green pepper


Bring to a boil, then cover and set on a simmer for at least 30 minutes. Check for seasoning, and simmer longer if you want it thicker.
